I will not lie and say that this book doesn’t contain a very toxic relationship, because it does. However if you know me, I’m the biggest sucker for the trope and the more intense it is, the better it will be for me. Vicious is basically a much meaner and more intense Cardan. If you think that the enemies-to-lovers in The Cruel Princewas torture to read, this was a lot worse.
Baron “Vicious” Spencer and Emilia Le Blanc had for each other was unreal. Not only does it have the rich-bad-boy-and-outspoken-poor-girl trope, it is also enemies-to-lovers. What happens when they end up living together because his family hired her family to be their helpers? Absolute chaos.
There was nothing special or new here: girl comes from a poor family but still manages to be positive and joyful about life and boy is a rich asshole with issues and a deep, dark past that has haunted him for many years, causing him to act emotionless and detached from the rest of the world. I guess I wasn’t entirely disappointed with this in the end and I’d gladly read two, three, or four more books about them because I’M HOOKED. However, I was told that this reminded people of The Cruel Prince by Holly Black except in the NA genre, and immediately I decided to just give it a chance. The characters sounded like they were in a toxic relationship, the main guy seemed like a huge asshole, and it didn’t appeal to me. Heck, it’s not even your typical New Adult novel. The reason why is because this isn’t your typical romance novel. To be honest, when I first read the synopsis, I was not interested in reading this. Only ever you,” he breathed out in pain, closing his eyes.
